In 2004 Congress created MCC as a government corporation to provide development assistance to countries that are following policies demonstrating good governance, investment in people, and commitment to economic freedom. Currently, MCC is working with partner countries around the globe to fund development programs that are implemented by the recipient government and targeted to alleviate extreme poverty. Back to top Duties Additional Duty Location Info: 2 vacancies - Washington, DC DUTIES: Assists attorneys in providing legal advice to MCC s country specific transaction teams and other MCC staff on all legal issues affecting MCC. Assists with development of compact programs, implementation of existing compact programs, and international and administrative law issues. Ideal candidate will have strong writing and analytical skills, attention to detail, and proven ability to meet deadlines. Examples of intern assignments include: reviewing disbursement related documentation; drafting letters, certificates, notices, agreements and memos; sitting in on negotiations with foreign governments and conference calls with local counsel; researching international law issues, as well as general law topics; generating closing checklists, assisting attorneys in conducting due diligence, responding to due diligence questions, and drafting MCC policies and procedures. Utilizes legal reference files, the Internet, and electronic databases to conduct research, compile information, and verify citations. OTHER INFORMATION: The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) at MCC seeks a highly-motivated second or third year law student or LLM student interested in international development and transactional work for an unpaid internship position. This experience may be counted towards requirements for your degree, depending upon your school's policy. This is a NON-PAID internship; however, a transportation benefit may be provided depending on availability of funds. Interns are not eligible for any other Federal employee benefits. Interested students must be willing and able to travel at their own expense to Washington, D.C. if selected for in-person interviews. A commitment of 32-40 regularly scheduled hours per week is desirable. Some flexibility will be allowed for class schedules and other variables.
