Job description: At the Hunt Alternatives Fund
Overview
Hunt Alternatives Fund
includes an operating foundation and a private grant making foundation that advance innovative and inclusive approaches to social change at local, national, and global levels.
The incumbent of this position reports to the Director of The Institute for Inclusive Security
, a program of Hunt Alternatives Fund in Washington, DC, that uses research, training, and advocacy to promote the inclusion of all stakeholders, especially women, in peace processes.
Responsibilities
Actively promote efforts to shift the perception from women as “victims of conflict” to women as “resources for stabilization”; participate in conferences, policy forums, working groups and networks to help deliver that message
Strategically engage and influence policy shapers whose work is relevant to the overall goals of the Institute; conduct meetings in person and via phone to develop strategic partnerships and initiate new relationships with key policy shapers from the United Nations as well as US and other governments, leading NGOs, major international organizations, and policy shapers within media, academia, foundations, etc.
Create written material that documents women’s contributions to peace building and advances cutting edge policy recommendations for promoting women’s inclusion
Organize briefings for policy shapers to promote women as change agents and raise awareness of the Institute’s work; this includes briefings in Washington, DC and New York at institutions such as the United Nations, US Departments of State and Defense, US Congress and others to expand our outreach within the policy community
Create PowerPoint presentations, talking points, speeches, web content, press releases, backgrounders, pitch letters, correspondence, and other materials that further make our case to the policy community
Travel to New York and elsewhere, including overseas, to develop and implement relevant policy events, meetings, and consultations with women leaders
Qualifications
Five to seven years work experience in international affairs, conflict resolution and/or development; advocacy background with the US Government desirable
M.A. in international relations, conflict resolution, or related field preferred
Knowledge of women, peace, and security, and/or regional expertise preferred
Exceptional written and oral communication skills ; demonstrated ability to synthesize, analyze, and present materials
Exceptional interpersonal, and presentation skills; strong team player
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment; high energy and enthusiasm
Strong organizational skills with an ability to prioritize and attend to multiple assignments
Good attitude and mature judgment
Fluency in Microsoft Office applications: Word, Access, Power Point, and Excel; proficiency with Lotus Notes and Raiser’s Edge a plus
Oral and written fluency in English; other language skills, desirable
US citizen/permanent resident or valid work visa required
