Job description: At the Hunt Alternatives Fund
Overview
Hunt Alternatives Fund includes an operating foundation and a private grant making foundation that advance innovative and inclusive approaches to social change at local, national, and global levels.
The incumbent of this position reports to the Deputy Director for Management and Partnerships of The Institute for Inclusive Security, a program of Hunt Alternatives Fund in Washington, DC, that uses research, training, and advocacy to promote the inclusion of all stakeholders, especially women, in peace processes.
Responsibilities
Serve as the primary liaison between the Women Waging Peace Network and The Institute for Inclusive Security; send periodic updates and communications about our work and opportunities and development in the field; help maintain a sense of community among network members and a sense of connection to Inclusive Security
Maintain active phone and email contact with Network members to stay abreast of their professional activities and maintain current descriptions of their work;
Oversee and create content for the Women Waging Peace “Ning” site, a social networking tool that fosters interaction among Network members
Work with the communications, training, and policy advocacy teams to connect Network members to policymakers, the media, and researchers through interviews, speaking engagements, conferences, etc.
Coordinate the participation of Network members in policy briefings, policy events, and major meetings organized by Inclusive Security (annual colloquia, etc.); make recommendations about which Network members should attend these events, oversee the travel and visa processes, and perform other related duties; assist members to tailor their messages for different policy audiences
Recommend training, professional development, and representational opportunities Inclusive Security could support that will assist Network members to strengthen their work
Document Network members’ contributions to peace building; produce original material and cutting edge policy recommendations
Travel to New York and elsewhere, including overseas, to develop and implement relevant policy events, meetings, and strategic consultations with Network members
Actively promote efforts to shift the perception from women as “victims of conflict” to women as “resources for stabilization”; participate in conferences, policy forums, working groups and networks to help deliver that message
Qualifications
Three to five years work experience in international affairs, conflict resolution and/or development; advocacy experience desirable
Knowledge of women, peace, and security required; regional expertise preferred
Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work with people from a variety of cultures and backgrounds; overseas experience desirable
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment; high energy and enthusiasm; strong team player
Exceptional written communication skills; ability to synthesize, analyze, and present materials
Strong organizational skills with an ability to prioritize and attend to multiple assignments
Online social networking experience
Good attitude and mature judgment
Creativity and innovation with respect to new projects and programs
Oral and written fluency in English; other language skills, desirable
M.A. in international relations, conflict resolution, or related field desirable
Fluency in Microsoft Office applications: Word, Access, Power Point, and Excel; proficiency with Lotus Notes and Raiser’s Edge a plus
US citizen/permanent resident or valid work visa required
