Job description: The Billing Manager is responsible for providing high support
to the San Francisco office by ensuring that current billing
applications, practices and policies are administered in
collaboration with Firm personnel which includes the
supervision of the Billing staff. Typical responsibilities of
this position include:
•Review and analysis of all new clients and assignment of work
to Billing Coordinators and departmental staff.
•Monitor status, WIP control and manage monthly reporting.
•Facilitate time entry training for new timekeepers.
•Ensure thorough training of new and current billing staff.
•Approval of special billing arrangement review and
implementation.
•Develop and manage policies and procedures to optimize the
effectiveness and timeliness of billing applications.
•Review client and matter registrations to ensure that
appropriate billing practices are instituted and adhered to.
•Work in collaboration with billing partners to address policy
considerations and billing applications; assess service
offerings of the billing department; and address client
inquiries/requests.
•Establish and mange resources towards the attainment of
short-term and long-term objectives of the department.
•Diligently manage and provide professional development
platforms for all personnel within the billing department.
•Prepare management reports and analysis.
Skills
•Solid working knowledge of the billing function in a law firm
environment.
•Demonstrated knowledge of accounting and billing functions.
•Highly disciplined approach to developing and executing
departmental objectives.
•Strong ability to lead, motivate and mentor staff personnel,
inclusive of diligently addressing performance concerns and
resolving conflict.
•Proven ability to develop and convey to management and
partners comprehensive financial information and analysis
relative to business operations and strategies.
•Ability to readily comprehend business objectives and
correspondingly develop and execute appropriate strategies.
•Well developed and sophisticated organization skills.
•Complete projects with a high-level of attention to detail.
•Proactive, innovative and results-oriented work orientation.

to communicate with a varied and diverse group of attorneys,
staff and clients. with a proven ability to manage relations

•Ability to multi-task with competing deadlines and
priorities.
•Maintain the highest level of confidentiality and discretion
on all work performed.
Education and Experience
•Bachelor’s degree, in Accounting Finance or Business
Administration.
•A minimum of 3 years supervisory experience.
•Legal billing experience in a professional services
organization. Law firm experience preferred.
•Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel.
•Intermediate to advanced knowledge of (and experience with)
financial reporting software such as Elite and other
proprietary e-billing and Firm systems.
•Ability to use web-based applications, database and other
software necessary to complete projects and reports.
