Job description: The **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. (BEP) prints billions of Federal Reserve Notes for delivery to the Federal Reserve System each year (the BEP does not produce coins - all coinage is minted by the United States Mint). These notes are produced at our facilities in Washington, DC, and Fort Worth, Texas. In addition to U.S. currency, the BEP produces several other security documents such as portions of U.S. passports and materials for Homeland Security.

Major Duties:
This position is located in the Project Management Division (PMD), Office of Product Development (OPD), **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. (BEP). The incumbent is responsible for the creation, design, development and deployment of technology solutions in support of banknotes and other security documents. The incumbent provides concept origination for features to authenticate
U.S.
currency, pushing the theoretical bounds of mathematical, computational and optical capabilities. Designs binary anti- counterfeiting systems and develops unique algorithms to provide for verification of security documents. Independently develops computer programs and writes software code to implement algorithms and integrates hardware with authored software to produce sheet/note inspection equipment for measurement and/or quality purposes. The incumbent supports the BEP's development and implementation of new products, designs, and security features, as well as the resolution of production and technology issues that may occur. The incumbent will maintain professional contact with officials from oversight agencies, customers, and stakeholders such as the Federal Reserve and U.S. Secret Service. They will collaborate with BEP organizations and customer agency representatives related to all phases of product and feature development and implementation.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

This position has a specific education requirement. Unless you have previously been employed by the Federal Government as an Engineer, you must verify completion of this basic education requirement by submitting a copy of an official college transcript with your application.

The requirements are:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Education
1. A degree in computer science/engineering, OR engineering with focus on computer science.
2. A combination of education and experience — college level education (minimum 24 semester hours), training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques.
Experience
: Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialize experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and that is related to the position to be filled. Examples of specialized experience may be found in the SUMMARY OF DUTIES listed above.
You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position.

After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use.

You will need to successfully complete a background security investigation before you can be appointed into this position.
How You Will Be Evaluated:
You will be evaluated to determine if you meet the minimum qualifications required; and on the extent to which your application shows that you possess the knowledges, skills, and abilities associated with this position as defined below. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and a versatile background in computer engineering including hands-on experience and knowledge of digital imaging techniques, software, and development languages. Thorough knowledge of Visual Basic, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and similar products.
Knowledge and experience in developing algorithms consisting of mathematical analysis and calculations for the purpose of developing unique inspection systems.
Ability to develop and incorporate digital solutions into high-speed manufacturing processes and/or into offline inspection.
Understanding of the ISO 9001 Quality Standard, internal controls, industrial control systems, and Information Technology security requirements, procedures and standards.
Knowledge and ability to troubleshoot and maintain automated electro-optical and/or mechanical inspection systems.
Knowledge and experience in presenting highly technical and complex ideas and systems, orally and in writing, to a wide range of audiences.
